Cravings

How do you control cravings?

I'm doing REALLY well with my cravings (specifically fast food), but that doesn't mean things are going to be hunky-dory 24/7/the rest of my life. Eventually these cravings will creep back up on me, and I need to be 100% prepared.

For those of you (Aunt Judy!!) who have given up sugar and other crave-o-load substances, how did you do it?! Guide me, o wise blog followers...

Would do you think about doing a 48 (or so) hour detox? I'm looking for ANY suggestions...

P.S. My brother, Lindsay, is going to help me possibly set-up my own website for my blogs. Stay tuned :)

Working out and staying busy.

I went cold turkey because a co-worker I didn't like said I couldn't do it and it made me mad... then when I started feeling better, that became a positive reinforcer. Then, since I found out my cholesterol went down 100 points, I'm not even tempted to go back!

When people apologize for eating sweets in front of me, I tell them not to because I ENJOY having the freedom to not choose sugar. I really do. I am not enslaved anymore.

I get small pieces of low calorie candy to chew on so I'm not tempted to eat some really bad stuff.

Usually I'll get Lifesavers or Wintogreens to help me get through the day. It's not the ultimate fix, but it's better than inhaling 1000 calories on something I don't need.

Sugar free jello also does wonders for me, only 10 calories per cup, so you won't feel too bad if you go overboard.

I'm completely going off sugar and processed food starting this week, so we can totally do it together. Anytime you want to go and work out or go on a bike ride I'm in. Whenever the cravings come, make sure to call and I'll talk you down! LOL!

I'm done with sugar too and have been for 6 weeks now. Learn how to use natural sweeteners. The internet is chalk full of recipes. When I discovered that 1 Jolly Rancher is 70 calories, I switched to keeping a large stock of gum on hand. Only 10 calories for a whole stick and I only chew half at a time.

Keep fruits on hand at all times; they will start to become super sweet. And when I first started, I bought Fiber One bars that each have 170 calories, because they're like treats but also have much goodness in them; I only ate them when I could not resist something sweet.

When I first started, I could not have any sweets at all cuz I simply was not strong enough to stop eating at just one. But I'm totally good at it now. Last night for family night, I bought choc covered marshmallow treats for the kids. I only had one. I was very happy.

Keep at it cuz it gets easier. The thing that kept me going was all the testimonials about other people's health improvements. My own testimonial is that I'm a mother of four, one who is nursing and keeps me up at night, and I no longer have to have naps during the day. Total miracle for me!

I think fruit is a great replacement for sugar. I've also found that I really like snacking on almonds and nuts during the day. I got the idea from my mom. I fill baggies with 2 Tablespoons raisins and 10 almonds each. I eat one bag between breakfast and lunch and one bag between lunch and dinner. It helps me be less hungry at meals so I don't overeat then. It also helps lessen cravings because I have something satisfying (but still pretty healthy) to much on.
